Kay trem ?

So I have built MarkM s OhKay Tremolo http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/MarkMs-Gallery/album15/album76/OhKay+Tremolo+LAYOUT_001.png.html and I am having a little problem with the volume level. Does anyone have an idea how to get some more volume out of it. The effect works really well, nice and choppy to a smooth bounce, but the rather large volume drop makes it almost unusable if you are going drop it in for a solo. Thanks

Tremolo's by nature create a volume drop. You could either boost the signal before or after to make up for this and bring the pedal to unity.

This may be as simple as changing the value of either the 4k7 resistor on the collector of the first transistor, or changing the 100k resistor after the .01 cap. Or maybe it involves adding resistance from emmiter to ground on the first transistor.

I'm not sure how, wait for one of those more knowledgeable people to drop by

i simply added a booster after the tremolo circuit, i used an lpb clone circuit, gives you loads of volume. so on the trem you have 3 controls, blend, rate, and volume (of the booster).

OK I know this is old. But I've build the same tremolo and I also have the same issue. It works but it's almost mute.
Is that normal?

I had the same issue with the pulsar project from tonepad. Posted about it here and got the "tremolo perceived volume drop" speech. Massive volume drop was what I was getting. I'm going with the add an LPB solution.

But I'm wondering if the original Kay add the same issue?
I would doubt Kay sold a pedal that would almost mute your sound!
And is the amp section there for if it's serve no purpose?
I can get around this volume drop no problem, but I'd like to know if it should like this in the first place?

I built mine using the following layout http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=87072.msg887573#msg887573 (my own layout). I did not notice any real volume drop with the exception of the most extreme depth and speed settings. Otherwise, it was pretty much unity.

I used the schematic from GGG as my "template" for the layout.

More questions.

If I set the speed to the slowest and the depth knob to the max, everything is OK for about 1 min, after the Tremoloing stops?
If I turn the speed to the fastest it starts Tremeloing again, then I bring it back to slowest and I get a minute of fun. You get the pattern!

What's up with that?

My Kay trem actually worked fine volume wise but when I tried to use it with the distortion of my amp on i'd just hear it going and going and going when I didn't even hit a note yet and it wasn't doing that quietly....it was kind of cool but not really useful...for maybe more then the outro of a song.
