Cool Retro Vibe Stuff?

I've been working on a power supply for some time now. A dual output design (1 amp 9VDC and 13.2 VDC 2 amp output). It's coming together and I'm wanting to make something really retro...an analog meter and an old school, flickering on/off power indicator.

Help with the indicator? I recall seeing some old test equipment that had power on/off indicators that would flicker a bit when powered up. I've searched the internet but I'm not coming up with much. Neon lights is about all I've come up with.

Any help?
