I built this nugget from last year on stripboard (the Johnson layout in the thread) a couple of months ago and just hooked it up last weekend.
Guess what?  Doesn't work!

Here is the INFO:

Design and layout by Dragonfly (thanks again, Andy) as per      http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=65251.0

All parts as per the schematic--now deleted-- and layout.

Battery is 8.7v unplugged
Q1
C=.94v
B=.14v
E=0.00v

Q2
C=.93v
B=.31v
E=.93v

If anyone catches something I may have done wrong, I'd appreciate it.
I'll go over the layout and continuity AGAIN as soon as I have a minute at the bench.

Thanks, all--I hope to have it working before NEXT Valentine's Day!

I've been interested in building this for a while. Are there any verified layouts knocking about ??

superferrite

I just rebuilt it with new components (a lot of the old ones were salvage) and it works!
Sounds more compressed than the clips and I swapped transistors until I found a set that works to my ear:
Q1 is a salvaged NPN with an hFE of around 80 and Q2 is the standard 2N2089.
Cleans up great with the volume this way,
THANKS EVERYONE!!!!

PS, 1878--there is a working layout in the thread I sited above!
Have fun.

Thanks. Is it the one with the DPDT 'fat switch' mod ??

superferrite

Naw, I just made the stripboard version.  Plenty fat already!

I'm bringing it to practice tonight to see how it behaves with my Bassman 10.  My little Microcube can't really approximate 50 watts of tubes.
