Hi m8s

Which could be the problem for a Volume pot not working properly, just drops the volume of about 5% ?

It's connected in the usual way so

- signal goes to pin 1 (or3)
- out from pin 2
- pin 3 (or 1) goes to ground.

How can it not drop the volume when 2 and 1 (or 3) are shorted so signal goes to ground ? What should I check ?

Already swapped 4/5 pots same value and tried also bigger values , same story!

btw it's a Mashall DriveMaster http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3812&g2_serialNumber=2

on my own layout

Thanks 4 help

Yo

When a volume control is properly connected and "turned all the way down" it creates a straight path to ground. No signal will pass. I'm guessing you're talking about the output volume control labeled "RV5"? If you're hearing anything when the volume is turned down the pot isn't connected right. If you have a multimeter check for continuity between the "grounded" lug of the pot and ground. If you don't get a beep or whatever there's something not connected right. Sounds like it might be connected like a series resistance not a voltage divider.

thanks Brad,

so is this the one and only problem, or there could be something else, I'll check connections again tonight, but while trying different pots I've also checked all connections and looked for shorts and everything looks good.

Thx

if lug 1 goes to ground, you won't get any sound. you'll need to check and make sure.

in this case, check to see if you accidentally wired the lug 2 to lug 1. this could accidentally be done if you were doing it on perf, and if 100k wasn't enough inline resistance to kill the signal, then that could cause it.

not likely, but it is a start.

Ok m8 got it working!, it was a cut on a trace!, see picture, I had to "clean" two traces making contact on the right side and may be the blade of the cutter just slide on the trace beside.

Stupid me because I didn't check contacts before to "brake my head" onto this pot.

thx 4 help m8

PS . btw there is still a little problem, the Treble pot is also increasing volume a lot, not only adding treble to the signal. but let me enjoy it for a while  :D :D
