I was poking around on an electronics parts site and stumbled across these two items which didn't show up in the forum search engine:

http://www.bgmicro.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=8951
From the site, "2N3251 is an oldie but goodie. TO-18 metal case, PNP, VCEO 40V, Ic 200mA."  $0.22 each

From the site "LF255H TO-5 Can by NSC. This vintage can is a rare find. JFET Input OpAmp. Can be used for fast D/A and A/D conversion, High impedance buffering, and wideband, low noise, low drift amplifiers. Formed leads for an 8 pin socket." $2.25 each

I figure somebody out there is looking for some fresh parts to try in their fuzz-maker.

Anyway, metal components just look cooler.

By the way, has anyone made a pedal in a clear case, all backlit with LEDs and chips held up in those 90 degree sockets?  I had this idea a few years ago, but figured it would get scratched too quickly.  Although I know guys that take off their shoes so they don't mess up the finish on their pedals...
