hi there, this is my first attempt at building a fuzz pedal, and although i have a very basic knowledge of electronics, i cant seem to get this to work properly.

It is definitely amplifying a signal, as when i turn the pot the intensity and gain increases, yet the signal is just a constant humming buzz, and i cannot seem to get my guitars input into the pedal.

These are a couple of photos of it, if that will help: (i have added a voltage starve pot, but i dont think that should be affecting it?)

Thanks,

aron

Plug a cable into the input jack, set your meter on continuity and put one probe on the tip, the other on the input of the board. Check for continuity. If that's good, then inspect your soldering of the input components on the board.

Unfortunately, the continuity appears to be fine.

Hmmm, i think it maybe something to do with the voltage starve pot that i've attached. what should that  be grounded to? the 0V rail?

Just looking at your pic the starve pot looks like it's wired up right.
If it seems to be amplifying a hum, that suggests that there's a problem with the input jack or the input wires.
Is the transistor soldered directly in? If you're not quick enough soldering you can sometimes break transistors although it takes quite a bit.

This one here: (the upper, simpler one)

I've checked the continuity on the input, and it all appears to be fine (unless my jack is broken itself)

I'm pretty sure the transistor i've used a bc547

I've never built the bazz fuss with this pot placement, I would suggest first flipping the transistor, if that doesn't work read the Debugging sticky at the top of this page. It will show you how to post your problem in a way that will make it easier for us to help you.

Double-check the orientation of the electrolytic caps too

Okay, i'll rephrase it all here:

attempt to the make 'bazz fuss' (not fuzz, as i said earlier sorry) from the above schematic. its meant to be a really simple fuzz circuit.
to my knowledge, i have not modified the circuit, with the excpetion of a voltage starve pot (1Mohm), the components i used were:

Caps: both 10uf, same as schematic
Resistor: 10k same as schematic (brown, black, orange stripes, but im sure thats 10k)
Transistor: BC547, an appropriate npn transistor, i should think?
Pot: A100k, this could be a problem maybe? It says log, so im unsure about this part....
Diode: Any diode for around this sort of voltage should work shouldnt it?

Im assuming by orientation of the caps you mean whether they're around the right way for the voltage or whatever? As in, not in backwards or anything.
I'm fairly sure that they are, in the picture, the one to the lefts negative leg is towards the outer of the board, and the one to the rights negative left is the opposite way (out to the other side of the board.)

I'll try flipping the transistor i guess, does that mean putting it so that c-e junction is the other way around?
