hello,

I am starting my build of the colorsound inductorless wah and build it as a remote opperated wah (rack wah) once its working.
the board (link) suggests a mod for the Q controle (depth) but i would also like to be able to shape the low and high end (range) of the effect.
does annyone know if this is possible and if so wich parts should be replaced for potentiometers.

thanks in advance, E.

edit: i found this schematic, does this look ok they named things incorrectly the Q pot is actually the wah pot.

Sauerkret

does it look ok?

here is my layout for the front of the rackunit

The Input looks like a booster.
The wah control is made by insterting a mechanical 'shutter' to block photon travel between the LED and the LdR...
A nice solution that doesn't require a 'wah-pot'..for stompboxing..as a rack mount the 'shutter' method might 'want' to become an LED with brightness control.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

that would fix the mounting in rack controll problem.
ill use a 100k pot in the pedal to send a voltage signal to the led. and have a switch to activate or bypass the circuit via a relay.

Sauerkret

still would like to know if the pots used fot the controles as indicated in the schematic are correct.

here's a link to the reissue, with out the buffer

I think it's the 2n2 and 6n8 caps that you can fiddle with to change the range of the wah, the ones just above the Q pot

when you breadboard it/ build it I'd socket them to find out which combinations you like best then put a bunch on a rotary switch

The "new_petal" schematic looks like a" cut and paste" design
The 1 meg after the input fet is not needed
What gain range and drain current and output resistance is wanted from the first FET?  The biasing changes with the 2n5088 gain control as drawn and other issues
Why two gain controls do you want both or do you want just one and what one If one think about what is changes with harmonics/distortion at each stage.

Look up led luminosity vs current and think about why some controllers use a shutter to vary light with movement to the LDR etc.

Have you heard or built a inductorless wha?  I would try one first before building this.

Sauerkret

i'm currently building a simpler version as a dropin for a crybaby.
if that works i'll build the rackmounted one.

I'm glad you mentioned that.

I've built both the Colorsound inductor-less circuit and the Colorsound inductor wah circuit, and I can tell you from personal experience that the inductor based circuit sounds mucho better and is WAY more expressive than the inductor-less circuit.

Sauerkret

ofcourse i've heard inductorless wah's, vids on the tube and ofcourse anny live recordings of kirk hammet (metallica pre st-anger res) an Slash (in his GNR era).
they used EMB audio remote wahs wich are inductorless designs.

i'll test pot positions when ive built the regular wah pcb
