Hi, I recently completed a BYOC ESV Fuzz and would like to modify it to get more treble. Can someone suggest a value change/mod for more brightness?

Thanks,
Jake

if you replace C3 with something less than 0.1UF, I'd start with o.o1uF, you'll get less bass

if you're not diming the volume, you can also solder a 100 - 1000pf cap from lug 2 to lug 3 of the volume pot

100 would give the least amount of treble  ... greater capacitance will give more

Wouldn't C1 be the place to start?

The Easy Face adds the blend that changes the value of that input cap.  It acts kind of like a tone control and really brightens up the sound.  I'm not one of the pro's, but I would suggest researching changing that cap.  Should take out some bass and get some of the treble back, just like on the Easy Face.

Cheers.

Thanks Gus, I posted the same question there yesterday (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=18095) but no response. This board has a lot of activity so I decided to give it a try :)

Did you google "brit face fuzz' yet?

Yes, I got 314,000 hits  :icon_biggrin:

I'm going to try the cap changes suggested above for now. Thanks Gus!

Hey Derringer,

This was going to be the quickest and easiest mod, so I soldered a 100pf cap to lugs 2 & 3 as you suggested.

SUCCESS! That's all of the increase in treble, decrease in bass that I need for this pedal. It was just a little too muddy before and it is perfect for my tastes now. If I need any more brightness I can get it with EQ on the amp.

Thanks for the suggestion. I learned something more here!  :icon_biggrin:

Jake,

Glad you found what you were looking for!  I may try this myself.

I have a question though. Is it really LESS bass, or just a better balance between bass and treble. I thought that mod would just let more treble out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not being picky, just want to understand what to expect.

Cheers,
George

^^^^^^^ To me it sounds like a little of both; less bass more treble. But technically the cap filters out frequencies, right? So it must be filtering out lower frequencies?

One of the gurus will probably weigh in with the correct answer.  :icon_biggrin:

The French connection

Put a socket and try differrent value...fix the one that suit your taste!

I know, but the pedal i built does not boost...it just increases volume!

the cap in question is allowing the treble frequencies to pass "more easily" tot he signal

The high frequencies that the 100pf cap is allowing to flow are bypassing the resistance supplied by the pot.
