For the orange squeezer compressor, are the only alterations needed to make it a bass pedal the onrs lisetd on tonepad?? 220k to 200k, output cap reduce to 1 uf, and the bleeder cap increase??

Dont i need to increase the input cap and the coupling cap from .047 to 1uf?? Or ay least .1?? Also will mpf102 be totally unacceptable substitute??

Actually for me the OS sounds good on my bass just as is.  I know it's a matter of opinion but mine sounds so good I don't want to mess it up.  I used a mpf102 in mine and it works great. ;D

Well, i just biult mine with the bass mods posted on tonepad. I still uses the .047 caps.

I used mpf102s also.

I think the one i made for guitar with the silicon diode mods sounds better and works better for my bass by far.

I use a orange squeezer on bass too, and the only change I made was for a variable attack/sustain. I replaced the 100k bleed resistor next to the 4u7 charge capacitor with a 50k resistor and 100k pot in series. If I had to do it again...and I might still change it....I would use a 5k resistor and the 100k pot, or maybe a 200k pot.

I usually find myself with the pot all the way left or close too it. I never go over the 100 ohm total range. Otherwise if I hit it hard....I'll start getting some gating happening. The other solution to the problem which I sometimes do, is to just not run my volume from the guitar at max into the compressor.

That being said...I don't always use the comp....its good for some things....bad for others......

This is for a friends bass. Bought a cool little cheapo scale bass for 50 bucks. One of those beginner packages, he got the whole thing brand new amp and all on craigslist. I set it up for him, fixed the neck and then shielded it. Then increased the tone cap from .068 to .1. There was just a volume and tone control so i put a push/pull pot for tue volume. I stuck in a hogs foot booster without the the high pass filters in with a spdt switch and a stereo jack. Then i added the low cut with the 1 meg pot and a .0022 cap across it. Then i biult the orange squeezer with a dpdt switch after the lpb. Then i took the push/pull vol pot and wired up the little bazz fuzz circuit with a trimmer for volume. The effects are all one when the jack is plugged in. It works great. The hogs foot boost really helps the bass, treble, and volume controls. The compressor also. Then the bass fuzz and its sweet sweet qotsa like distortion.

All of this was point to point except for the three trim pots all on a tony peice a perf board. The cavity was too huge for just two little mini pots! It was made for mods. Just a stupid p-bass pick up style. He wants to replace em. The whole thing runs off one nine volt.

But the orange squeeZe doesnt work like the one i biult for my guitar. Which was a jerry-rigged circuit to use a 1n914 silicon diode but i used a schottky.  I think i will breadboard the germanium version and see what i can do now that i have ge diodes. Im not going to rebiuld the OS in the bass again with the right trannies and silicon or stock values since im so proud od the job i did pluss it was crazy engeneering it all to fit so snug. im really in love with my silicon orange squeeze though. I wonder if its better than the ge.

I used SI diodes in mine when I first built it and it sounded ok.  When I finally replaced them with the 1n34a ge diodes it was even better.  It could be a matter of opinion too.  Hey if it works and you like it don't change it.  I have done mods to pedals that I already loved and ended up disappointed with it after the mod.  So you never know.  That's the beauty of perf.  Easier to modify.

Sounds like a pretty cool bass. A "sleeper," like what they used to do to cars. It looks stock and not very impressive till you open the hood!

oh it is really cool. Its scaled down so its fun to play and it sounds great with the bass fuzz and the OS. Ive been avoiding him cuz i dont wanna give it back!
