How can I check BS170?

   I just built a Zvex SHO and can't get it to work. I suspect it's the MosFet, but don't know how to check it. I get a direct guitar signal through, but no boost. Any advice?

I have the same problem sometime ago...the solution is simple: rotate the BS 170!
I saw in the datasheets that they have opposite pinouts, depending of the manufracturer ...anyway, there was a topic of Mark Hammer here, a few weeks ago, in which R.G. explained how to test MOSFET using a DMM.
