Hello I am somewhat new to guitar, self-taught of about one and a half years, but I love to make things and experiment so I found an extremely easy schematic to follow only to come up short.

Schematic:

Parts I Used:
2n2222 transistors
exact ohm resistors from local Radioshack
exact micro farad electrolytic caps.
dpdt switch( toggle)
1 mono and one stereo jack
500k audio pot ( volume)
1k linear pot(fuzz)

Problem:
circuit was wired exactly as shown on a perf board
all solders were double and triple check
i feel like there is something that is obviously wrong that i am skipping over
well the bypass was about the only thing that worked properly.
upon turning the fuzz on the sound got extremely quite and the volume knob sort of worked
fuzz knob had no effect at all
and if you touched the pot in just the right way it made a very cool radio broadcasting a local station through my amp

Possible Solution:
because of the 2n2222 transistors are npn then i would need to swap the battery terminals and flip the positives of the caps?
maybe the caps are of the wrong type i believe radial caps are needed the ones i got are axial-lead if i am right.

Thank you for you patience in helping me it is truly appreciated .

The caps whether axial or radial wont matter - It's kind of like Trousers and Shorts - Both do the same thing, but look different.

It's not clear from the schematic you posted, but make sure that the pins of your transistors are not connected to each other/shorted to each other.  They should not be connected.

Also, the layout is wrong.

The 9 volt + line is connected to ground, and the 9 Volt -  line is also connected to ground.  This will result in no sound.

Try a different approved layout.  There should be some in the gallery here.

Good luck!
Try a little tenderness.

And a hot-damage effect to the battery...ie test for PS short circuits before applying power.
