Debugging a Thor

Hi all,

I just built a perfboard Thor and ran into a strange problem while debugging it.  When the bright switch is off, there is a fizzy sound that is present while playing, and if I let a note decay, when it reaches a certain level, it sort of gets "cut off".  When the bright switch is on, though, this doesn't happen, and the pedal sounds normal.  I checked and double checked my wiring, and I'm at a loss for what this could be causing this.  Any suggestions for things I might try would be greatly appreciated.

I've been lurking for a while, just reading posts and learning.  I also built the beginner project a while ago, so I'll have to post some pics in that section soon.
