I would like to do some artistic painting on some enclosures that I purchased pre-painted from PPP.  From my email correspondence, I learned that they use a polyester based power coat paint and a poly based clear coat.  I've had my share of mishaps with using different types of paints and clear coats and getting cracking/blistering/etc, so I'm wondering what type(s) of paint would be safe to use on this type of surface?

Acrylic paint should probably be fine, but I can't guarantee it'll stick in the long run.  If you scuff up the surface a bit beforehand (perhaps with a Scotchbrite pad), it might help adhesion.

I've used Testors and Sharpie paint markers- both worked fine

ok cool.  I know this may sound silly, but what about spray paints.  I don't want to spray the whole enclosure.  Just parts of it.  Enamel and Lacquer both ok?  What about clear coating to make it last longer?

Every clear coat I've tried has worked fine with powdercoat, which leads me to believe that spray paints should be fine too.  Whether the clearcoat plays nicely with the spray paint is a different story all together.

ok sweet.  yeah, what I'm looking at doing is getting the enclosures painted in bubble gum pink and then taping off certain sections with painters tape and using a white spray paint to paint on white candy stripes.  So I guess the key is just to keep it all unified in which ever I use whether it's lacquer or enamel.
