Google Sketchup Template Build Report

I wanted to share this separate from the pictures thread.  I've recently begun making my own drilling templates for PPP.  So far they've done a great job.  I used Google Sketchup 7 which is a free, easy to use 3-D Drawing and Drafting Program.  I'm also using it for my "professional" research designs, so yeah, its "good enough".

This is a Madbean Shortbus, modified with a 500k gain pot instead of 1M for slightly lower gain ranges and a TLC2262 for the op-amp.

Here is the layout/measurements I sent them.  It's not perfect.  I think the jacks could be moved down a bit.  I will probably move the LED beside the switch and move the switch up a bit to accommodate a battery.  I also had a 5 Knob 1590BB drilled horizontally for a British Channel Build.  I'm waiting on some parts before I finish that build.

I'm also working on a template similar to the Subdecay Liquid Sunshine for my 1590B 3-Knob overdrives.  Painted in Metallic Blue, but its not quite metallic enough for me.

Feel free to use that drilling template for whatever if you want.  I will start keeping a depot of templates I like after I fine tune certain aspects.

wow! i saw this and downloaded sketchup..
great tool!, but very hard to handle an learn..i´ll give it a few days and check my learning curve.
i´d love to make 3d models of common parts to plan layout more thorougly.. I tried to draw a 1590B box, but i couldnt make the slanted sides, and rounding the edges is a PITA..i´ll keep trying though!!

it took me about 2 or 3 drawings to really get good with it.  I'll post my 1590B and 1590BB models when I get home from work tonight

hmmm...can't seem to get it to download...been trying intermittently for the last few days.  :icon_confused:
Ernie Ball Music Man - JPM, THD Univalve, Grace Big Daddy, PepperShredder, BSIAB2, FireFly Amplifier.

that´s weird. i had no issues downloading and installing.

what would be really cool is if we make a collaborative library of components (jacks, leds, pots, switches, boxes, batteries), so we can make 3d box layouts.

Click on the 'Get Models' icon, next to the end on the right side, and type in Hammond. Here is a link to a good one with different hammond boxes:

I made those using the free trial of the IGES import tool from this site: http://www.sycode.com/products/iges_import_su/index.htm

They're more complex than they need to be for our uses, but they sure do look nice. :)

If you're not doing it for yourself, it's not DIY. ;)

yeah if you just need to layout drilling, its overkill.  but they sure are pretty!
