Hey, first post here. Not really a stompbox building question, but not sure where else to put it...

Browsing around in Radioshack the other day, I noticed their whole line of power adapters and Adaptaplugs. One in particular had adjustable voltage from 3 to 12 V, which would be convenient for use with pedals that take 12 volts. (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2552560) And from what I can tell, the "M" adaptaplug (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062435) seems to be the same size as a standard BOSS plug, 5.5 mm outer diameter by 2.1 inner diameter (I think that's right). It provides 1000 mA, and goes up to 12 V, and you can plug in the adaptaplug the opposite way if a pedal with a positive center. Has anyone tried this or see any reasons why it wouldn't work?

It looks like something Radio shack had about 5 years ago, a bass playing friend of mine had something very similar, it worked great! Judging by how it works it looks like it's probably a regulated powersupply and should work great!

I have that one...it works find with my 9VDC pedals. I couldn't get it to work on my 12VDC tube (pepper shredder) project. It was too noisey. Otherwise works fine for me.

I wouldn't search around in radioshack for adaptors, if I were you!

A quick trip down to my local Goodwill or Savers and I can find more then 35+ various wall warts... Tons of good 9V/12v/5v/6v/30v/etc, of both positive and negative center, SMPS, standard, regulated,  even a number of adjustable output and switchable center ones like the one you found, at every location. And they all cost $0.99.   :icon_neutral:

Every one I have bought has worked perfectly fine for me.

I've got one of those, except from another brand. I opened it up and found that it wasn't regulated - it's actually just a transformer with a separate secondary tap for each voltage.

The RadioShack one claims to be regulated...

Unfortunately, I don't have a Goodwill or Savers anywhere nearby (rural Vermont) but thanks for the tip.
