I just got a used amp, a peavey special 150 to be exact, solid state 150w deal. anyway it had alot of buzz noise , so much so that i was planning on recapping it and replacing some of the wire wound resistors, just to make it quiet enough to be usable. i was using a curly cheap cord as i have all my normal gear at a friends house! when i finally plugged a monster cable from my guitar to the amp, the noise was gone!?! it is a ctually pretty quiet even at loud levels (its too loud to crank) with the monster cable?
i figured on a less bright signal, but didn't expect alot of noise due to impedence of the cable...
the schem is here in case anyone is curious about the input stage of the amp...

so, problem solved, or rather problem removed via problem cable...
just figured i'd post this in case someone has an amp noise problem and the guitar cord is under the radar.
great little amp btw, very loud and very cleen. i dont use the lead channel, i use pedals  :icon_eek: for dirty tones.
nothing says forever like a solid block of liquid nails!!!

Yeah, lol, it's pretty common to suspect the amp or pedal, and it's a cord!!
Try a couple of different cables, and wiggle them at the amp and guitar.  If you get no problems, then I'd say it's good!   Only problem I'd think you could have 'hiding' there would be a loose input jack, but it seems like you diagnosed it pretty well.

Those curly cables don't tend to last as long, IMHO.
