So I know the 386 is a low voltage power amp, also used in many distortion pedals.
Can a single opamp be used to substitute it? Or is there any way to substitute the 386 with opamps?

Mark Hammer

Power amps are made to be able to feed lots of current to low-impedance loads.  While the internal structure is different, some op-amps, like the NE5534/32 and the LM833/837 are also intended to be able to drive low-impedance loads.  Whether or not they can "substitute" would depend on the specifics of the circuit.

But i general, no, there are no simple plug-in replacements from the op-amp universe.
