In the typical volume control where the circuit out goes to lug 3, lug 2 effect out goes to the 3pdt switch and lug 1 goes to ground, what can cause the volume control not to work, ie the effect is on full all the time?? thanks.

That'll happen if lug 2 is somehow shorted to the effect signal that goes before the volume pot--so anything connected to lug 3.

If lug 1 is not actually connected to ground, if lugs 2 and 3 are shorted...

What is the volume control in?

It is the volume on a big muff build. I'' see if I can find the short. Could this be inside the pot?

Thanks.

possibly. For instance, if you overheated the ground lug and it separated from the track, that would cause your problem.
