I recently built a Silicon Fuzz Face using the layout at GGG.  The effect works (has a good fuzz tone!) but I seem to have a major volume loss when I turn the pedal on.  i have checked all my part values and wiring like 5 times and cannot find anything wrong!

Here is a link to the schematic and layout I used: http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_ff5_lo_npn.pdf

I used a jumper for the trimmer (RT5) and changed the value of the bias resistor (R5) to 8k2 (have also tried 1k and 4.7k)  I did include the 1k resistor to reduce RF noise (R1).

Any ideas on what could be causing my volume loss?

R1 is meant to be a pulldown resistor. You should be using at least a 1meg resistor there. If you placed a 1k resistor there its bleeding most of your signal to ground before it even hits the circuit. The space labeled c4 is meant for a small value picofarad cap to bleed radio frequencies to ground.

Brad,
You are right about the value of R1... it is a 1.5M not a 1k as I had originally posted.  Sorry for the error... I hope I didn't waste too much of your time.

So did you have a 1k in that spot by mistake? Have you replaced it? If that isn't the problem you can up the 330ohm resistor to get more output from the circuit. You can try a 1k in that spot.

transistors E, B, C voltages.  Check the pinout of you transistor google etc the transistors.
