Got lazy and when putting the diodes in the clipping section I put them in backwards. The pedal became a great metronome plus the LED was in sync with the thumping. I fixed that now no sound and the battery gets hot within 20-30 seconds what have I done wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

The order of the diodes in the clipping portion shouldnt have mattered at all. If you werent geting the right sound, it was some other reason. The diodes are an opposing pair rite?

I thought that the clipping diodes are directional with a positive and neagtive side and if you put them in incorrectly you won't get sound?

The clipping diodes attach to the same two points but in opposite directions.  It sounds like you have reversed a protection diode which is now shorting your battery.    Check and see if D5(according to the schem at GGG I'm looking at) is reversed.

If you reversed ALL the diodes, you also reversed the polarity protection diode (D5).  This means that you're basically shorting the battery out with that diode whenever the battery is plugged in, which is like taking a piece of wire and placing it between the two terminals on your 9v.  Turn D5 around so that it can do its job properly and protect the circuit rather than drain your battery and create a fire hazard.

Edit: Apparently Bingewood beat me to it.

If somebody makes a mistake, help them understand what went wrong.  Show them how to do it right.  Be helpful.  Don't just say "you're wrong, moron."

The clipping diodes dont matter. There are two and they are oriented in the opposite directiob from obe another. They both connect to the same junction, so turning them both around, will still leave one in one direction and the other in the other direction. It doesnt matter. They will do the same thing. You should try breadboarding circuits before u build them. It will help you understand wut matters to the sound of the circuit.
