Using a stompbox as a preamp

Hi, i'm new to stomps building... I am experimenting with a JCM800 emulator with jfets, that works fine used as a stomp before the clean channel of the amp.

Generally speaking, what mods have to be done to use a stomp as a preamp (that is, directly into a poweramp) ? I've tried to use my circuit that way (into the effects return of my ADA Viper), but the sound is very different (and bad) from the stomp mode (into amp's input).. it sounds like using an amp modeller without the cabinet emulator...

Thanx in advance

Post the schematic for your JCM emulator. If it has a tonestack all you should need, really, is an output buffer to drive the power amp to the right volume. (I mean, if it's a full emulation of the JCM preamp then it shouldn't be any different than the actual JCM, at least when it comes to frequency shaping)

The Tech21 SansAmp is a tube emulation preamp, look into that schem. its in the gallery somewhere.
