A teacher gave me a big old box of parts he rounded up from unused lab stations at school. I literally have a TON of these electrolytics that are a dark blue with gold writing and gold "neg" stripe. Any idea on the brand/model and if they are suitable for pedals?

What markings are on them and what shape is the top vent?

If they have an M symbol they might be Panasonic FC.

These are Panasonic FC:

Blue with gold writing, gold negative stripe, M in a box with the series following. Mine have some small red writing, that's the batch code or something. T shaped vent on top.

They are very good high quality caps, Panasonic's low ESR series, 2nd lowest ESR after FM series.

Some audiophiles don't like them in the signal path, although from what most people say you should use a film cap there instead anyway.

You can really use whatever electrolytic you want, it's only in high stress environments that the shoddy ones typically crap out.

Just make sure they're not too old as really old caps tend to dry out and go out of spec. If they've just been sitting for a bit if you want there is a procedure to 'bed them in' should be on the datasheet.
