Hi,
I have never built a fuzz face pedal before and would like to know which layout to use for a GE NPN transistor?  Am I fine just to use a SI layout and just stick the GE's in place with a bias change?

I went to the search button and found several people liking the axisface.  Is this the one to use?  I could not find a fuzz face that was NPN and GE.

This is the link to the axis face that I found.

Thanks for any leads,
Paul.

sure, a silicon npn fuzz circuit is basically the same as a germanium npn fuzz circuit ,)there are also PNP germanium transistors that use the opposite polarity on the battery and any polarized caps- different circuit-).  germanium transistors are usually not as consistent as silicon and may need bias adjustment, search 'fuzz biasing' . but if you have npn germanium transistors and put them in an axis face npn circuit, it should work fine,
the axis face is a good circuit thats been built by lots of people and offers good info in many build reports so is a good candidate. if you have trouble ,you can look through otheres build reports and find answers, or ask questions...
fuzzes often require bias fine tuning to get your sound, which is a valuable learning experience.
also input cap size adjusts the amount of bass heaviness in the sound, and can be adjusted smaller or larger to taste.
go for it.
fuzzes are simple circuits, but can offer great tones and can go from clean to fuzzed out with the guitars volume knob.
btw, you can get packs of assorted npn silicon transistors at radio shack so if the transistors you have dont work out you can always use silicon ones in the same circuit..

nothing says forever like a solid block of liquid nails!!!

Thanks for the response.  I went ahead and put together the Axis and the FF on GGG.

I put the cv7112 transistors with the GGG fuzz and they should really nice, though I can hear a bit of oscillation as a note dies out.  Do you know what causes that?

I put 2n2222's in the Axis and they sound okay.  The 2222 in the GGG project sound harsh, but in the Axis they sound fine.  Overall a nice fuzz pedal.  I think I will box up one of them with the 7112 after I mess around with some more values.  They sound too nice not to use for something.

And I would like to know what causes the bit of oscillation if anyone knows?
