is there a mod to give this thing more volume? could i just use a lower value volume pot?

Scruffie

Strange as it may sound, you'd actually want a higher value volume pot, not having built a fuzz face though... can't say if this will have any implications or if there's a better way to do it.

Yes, there are ways to increase the output volume.  R4 and R5 form a voltage divider, which keeps the output volume low before it even reaches the volume control.  If you make R4 larger, it will increase output volume.  You might want to make R5 correspondingly smaller as you do, in order to keep the bias set properly.

It might possibly change the tone somewhat, which may or may not be a bad thing, or maybe not even noticeable.

Perhaps try R4 1k5, R5 6k8 or something like that?  Or 3k9 for R4 and 4k7 for R5, for a more dramatic boost.  As long as they add up to roughly 8k to 9k, the bias won't shift much.

P.S. Using a smaller volume pot will reduce low frequencies in the output signal (tighten up bass) a bit, and will lower the output impedance, which may restore some lost high frequencies.  So remember, in this case: smaller pot (100k) = brighter, larger pot (500k) = darker.

awesome thanks guys! i'll try that after this weekend and let u kno how it turned out

there are other factors, but if it's biased, upping the 'top' resistor [usually shown as between 330 and 1k2] will do 'it'.
Mod to taste, I like the sound of a 100ka pot controlling a FF output which is used at around 2/3 - 3/4's volume setting, it seems to get brighter when ~dimed.

i was on tour for about 2 months and somehow managed to forget a lot of the things i've learned (granted i was still quite a novice when i left). tellin me what resistor to change out for what is good enough for me haha
