I'm trying to understand why the Red Llama seems so noisy at idle and by noise I mean hiss. I've tried metal film and carbon film resistors, poly and metal caps, eliminated the ceramics and grounded it seven ways to Sunday but the hiss never diminishes. I've also built several using different layouts with the same results. I like the way the Llama sounds but the excess noise is driving me crazy. I've built higher gain pedals that are much quieter, even at full throttle. I'm also pretty sure I've read almost all the thread regarding this circuit. So please, educate me. Have I overlooked something or is this just the nature of the beast? Thanks for your patience and help.

Do you have the inputs of the unused sections tied down?

The quick and unsure answer would be yes (?). I've used the GGG and Markov layouts as well as my on based on the Markov.

What is it enclosed in?

Taiwanese 1290. I'm pretty sure this isn't ground noise. Since the Llama has a huge amount of output I'm assuming it's most likely just how it is.

I had problems with oscillation in mine and changing the layout and using shielded cable helped that, but your issue sounds different.  I think I read somewhere that if you tie the unused inverter inputs to something other than ground increased performance.  Unfortunately, I can't remember where I read it and whether it was to tie the unused inputs to +V or to some sort of reference voltage.  I am pretty sure I read it in a thread on here somewhere.
