capacitor codes

just found 2 bags of ceramic caps, one with 22 and the other 2.2...........what value are they? :icon_redface:

Correct me if I am wrong, but the 22 is actually 220 or 22 pF and the 2.2 is 200 pF

mmmmmm and ".1J 100HT" & "H104J 100MEFI" ???? (iv found a box of really random caps)

Hmmm, ignoring all but the 104J on the second cap those would be 100 nF with 5% tolerance, (the rest is probably just manufacturer and the like) the others I am not so sure, what type of cap are they?

They are a bunch of Metallized polyester i think.

hmmm I would say ignore the H and use the 3 numbers after that and the next letter as the tolerance code, dont quote me on that, its just my best guess.

H103K = 0.01uF

H474K = 0.47uF

H822J = 0.0082uF (?)

H332GP = 0.0033uF

H562GB = 0.0056uF

H4223 K T = 0.022uF (is that 4 really on there?)

H154 K T = 0.15uF

.1J = 0.1uF

I think the 100 on the caps refers to the voltage rating.

ok can you clear one more thing up for me...... 47!

Im trying to uild a Ruby Amp and it calls for 2x 47n caps.

then on the strip-board version its says 47nf.

then on another layout it says 0.047uf......so are they all the same????

now iv got 2 47n polly caps, but they are much smaller then all the caps i see on other peoples photos?

You could buy this capacitance meter kit from NKC Electronics.  For about $13.25 us (after shipping) it is a decent price for a useful piece of test equipment.  I just built one 2 days ago and it works great.
It has a test range of 1p to 500u and can run off a 9 volt battery as well as a wall wart.  But you still need to know how to read “n” codes since the digital readout will diplay caps smaller than uf this way.  With pico's it shows a “p” at the end.  For large size caps it shows a “u” at the end.

Thats using a ATMEL AVR microcontroller, would be fun to make one myself......thanks for posting.
