I have a KR Mega Vibe that runs at an unregulated 12v positive ground. I have a simple gain stage that I want to install on the ouput to give me a lot of "in my case", needed headroom. Where and how can i grab the regulated 9v current that I need?  Is there any way to us a 1044 chip or something to convert that 12v over somehow????

Probably. Check the maximum input voltage on the charge pump chip though. The MAX1044 is 10.00000000V. It dies at 10.00000001V. The LT1054 is bigger, but I don't remember the actual number. If it's over the maximum your unregulated 12V goes to, you're good. If it's not, you're going to need to regulate or clamp the incoming voltage to the charge pump to something it can live with.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
