Test Equipment to Service Tape Delay

I'm loading some new tape in tape machine that I'm trying to get running and I'm wondering is it shiny side towards the heads are away? 

Guess I can try it both ways and just find out

Cart tape is wound the opposite way from regular reel to reel tape, the magnetic part is on the outside... think 8 track.  I found this out the hard way when I ordered my first reel of very expensive cart tape and no sound came out because I did it the way I always have.

By the way, I've had the 8206 in my machine for a while now.  I haven't gotten to use it daily or anything but it did make it through a weekend of recording quite well.
