my wife has a glass sculpturethat would look really cool illuminated from the bottom, but the cabinet she keeps it in isn't near an out let and built onto the wall. so i was thinking i would wire up an led/battery set up in a base for it. my question is what is the best battery to use and what resistor value would be best for optimum battery life? the surplus store i go to has banks for aa and aaa also nicad could be used.

basically i would just wire a resistor in between the led and the battery right?

Blue LEDs use less current, as low as 2mA, so you could use one w/ a limiting resistor on a couple of AAs.

The FAQ (link at top of forum) has links to LED calculators that might help you as well.
