Effect shorting my power supply and getting pretty hot

I built a GGG Tube Screamer and it all worked fine, then I disassembled it to finish the enclosure. When I reattached everything I accidentally switched the ground and power at the DC plug. After sorting that out nothing works and the power supply shorts out everytime I plug it into the dc socket. There is no power going anywhere on the circuit. Have I busted some components with reverse polarity?

If there is a polarity protection diode on that PCB somewhere, your circuit should be OK. If not, then yeah, you might have fried some stuff when you supplied it with reversed polarity. Are you sure that it's not still miswired?

There is a polarity protection diode, and that was the source of the heat. I have now replaced it and the LED has gone on, now to see if I have any sound.

Which components might potentially be damaged by getting the polarity wrong?

I am getting a tiny bit of sound output, virtually nothing, would this mean damaged transistors?

Op-amps get hot when the polarity is reversed. One even melted a patch on my breadboard!
Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.

I worked at Ibanez as one of two electronics techs for close to two years we received back a ton of tube screamers.  When they were plugged in with reverse polarity, the diode was the first place to check.  50% of the time that was enough to fix them.  The other 50% of the time we replaced the IC.  Not once did I ever have to change more than that on a unit that didn't have other problems like faulty switches (which inspired people to plug in units with wrong polarity) or bad solder joints which prohibited the switching circuit from doing its job.

I replaced the IC and now it is working great, cheers.
