Impedance

Hey, new at this, could anyone give me a simplified defention of impedance....or rather, is there a simple defenition of impedance?

One thing I'd add to this is that there is no such term as "ohmage", which I see on the forums all the time.  Makes me grind my teeth when I see that.  Sometimes I will educate them about the correct term, other times I just sigh and go on.
