There are cheaper places than Maplin if you look around. There have been quite a few threads about good places to buy from in the UK.

For instance they're as little as 68p if you buy them from Farnell and choose the cheapeast available. Admittedly, you need a minimum £20 order and you can't just walk into a shop and walk out with them
