It's 2 am... and here I am surrounded by a tiny mountain of tiny electrical components, wire, my bass, and my tiny old practice amp. I just made my first step into pedal building. I'm very happy with the result of hours of wasted time. I just finished breadboarding my first circuit, a bazz fuss. I just tried it out (albeit at extremely low volume as to not wake my mother, who has the flu) and I really dig it. If all goes well, I'll be soldering this up tommorow. I wanted to give a quick thank you to everyone on this forum for posting so much valuble information for newbies like me. I can see the addictive attraction of this hobby.

It's a good feeling to know you made it yourself, isn't it? :icon_biggrin:  Congrats, and welcome to .....the dark side! :icon_lol:

OK, now it's time to find out how this stuff can mess with your head: For your next project do a simple booster like the so-called "beginner project" or the Muff-boost at AMZ, and feed that to your Bazz Fuss--I promise you will enjoy it.

Riding high on the excitement curve   8) !
First workin' circuit is always a big kick !

Now I just need to fiddle with the clipping diodes and the input and output caps. I'm leaning heavily towards addind a switch to go between an LED and some other array of diodes.

PS. Everyone was very right about this circuit being loud as hell.

I am only on my 3rd project and started in February.  I started with a Dirty Sanchez and fiddled around with it for awhile on my breadboard before committing it to a perfboard.  After three tries on perf I had a finished box with sound.   Although I am not happy with the final result it felt good to finish something and box it up with graphics.  Learning about circuit building, finishing a box, and working with tools is really fun.  After the 1st one, made an Ugly Face.  It was faster because of the skills I learned from the 1st few rounds. My soldering skills are much better, I am less confusing, and I'm learning a little bit on how parts are reacting toward one another.  I have gotten past some of the beginning learning curves and now have the challenge to actually learn the more technical engineering aspects.   I tried to breadboard a Bronx Cheer,  a Rangemaster, and a Scrambler in one week and had bad results.  After being discouraged, I put together a Bazz Fuss followed by a LPB followed by the Fun Octave Circuit and then followed that with another LPB.  By playing around with different kinds of diodes in each section and pots I have had a good productive week.   This hobby hooks you hard if you like the work.  More fun than most things these days, fo sho.
