Bassballs using Dr.Quack's LED'S for the sweep.

I'm currently experimenting with the EH Bassballs circuit.  I was going to try Jack O's two red LED fix to use a LM358 as the 1st dual op amp instead of a 1458.  Has anyone tried this?  If so would the Nurse Quacky portion of the sweep circuit be better than the Dr. Quack?  The main thing I like is the dual filter circuit in the Bassballs.  Right now with the circuit as is the ripple decay is too pronounced and not very adjustable.

Last year, I spent some time with the Bassballs circuit and here's what I settled on.  I never built it, but I did make a perf layout for it.  Keep in mind that I tuned this for guitar.

Wow, that's a lot simpler looking than the Baseballs.

Thanks for the replies.  I will try the mods from runoffgrooves too, thanks.

With no mods I got the sweep to work using an LM358.  I doubt that it sounds exactly right. The long sweep isn't as long as on the sound clips.  I like what I'm getting though.  I'm with Mark H. on the fuzz sound.  I'll try adding his suggestion using diodes.
