Hi all:

Apparently I am in one of those "start a bunch of annoying threads" moods.

Anyway, does anyone know of any attempts to shoehorn a BeagleBoard into a pedal?

The BeagleBoard has an ARM processor with a TI DSP core. I have no idea if the software tools that are (cheaply) available for this board are able of programming the core.

Since you have this thread open too, I'll move Beagle Board comments over here.  :)

That link seems to indicate you can develop on the DSP as well (in reference to previous comments in the Atom thread).  You'll need to download some TI stuff, but an initial glance seems to indicate that it's free.  Of course none of it is open source as most of the Beagle Board is, but that wouldn't matter to most of us in this case.  I didn't have time to do a thorough scan of what all is said there, but I went to the TI site and saw no cost for the required tools.  Perhaps I'm wrong though...
