I actually agree.  That guy could put screaming babies to sleep in 2 seconds flat.  Don't see how efficient stepdown DC to DC converters would be particularly useful for building pedals though.  You would usually just use a voltage divider, opamp buffered supply, or regulator.  Please prove me wrong though!
