Don't assume anything, I think it's not IR but uses RF to control a switch, as we know one switch can easily lead to another, but remote is the desired unobtanium.

Says a light flashes and a buzzer buzzes when the remote button is pushed, these states could easily be substituted for say true bypass switching states.
  I wound'nt need or want:
Unwanted RF [or other] noise from remote getting into audio system
Unwanted RF [or other] from audio interfering with remote.
Flashing [well maybe, rather start with an on/off state]
Buzzer [maybe it's on/off state, would require more current than an LED?
Other than that it looks like an on off state thing with remote control.
RF communication I suppose?, since infrared wouldn't work through a door.
100' range is more than enough, 50' or even 25' could do work for me.
I'm lazy, sure, but sometimes I just don't have time to get up and reset something.
