Any suggestions for a boost in front of this bad boy?  I have room on the vero for a boost before this circuit and I know it already sounds good as is.

Please report back!

I just perfed this one and am waiting for a box.  Can't wait, the breadboarded version was great and really loud.  I tried a couple of
different tone controls but left them out and socketed the in and out caps, and transistors, as well.  A great fuzz, maybe my favorite
so far....

Anything you would use to boost a fuzz face can be used here but honestly why would you. There is already a ton of volume and a ridiculous amount of gain. Its a mushy pedal already and youre only going to get mushier by boosting.

HA!
Right you are--I spent a while taming it with transistor choices.

Well, "because I can" is the only answer!  I have room on the scrap of vero I built it on and it still hasn't been boxed so what the hell?

Check out freq central's post about adding a BMP tone with the recovery stage at the end of the One Knob.  His clip is pretty great.  Tried a version of it when I had it up on the breadboard but got too impatient and wanted to get it on perf.  Playing around with different transistors is really fun with this circuit.  I put a random mitsubishi metal transistor in Q2 and tied the emitter directly to ground and got a nice gain boost, although this circuit does not need any more gain!

Thanks!  I had forgotten about that.  I think I will--there are a few layouts of BMP tonestacks coupled with gain stages out there that I found.

I'll report back.

Rangemaster type booster.
Why? Because the treble boost will keep the tone clean and not flubby/faty/gross.
Boosted fuzz faces sound great. The One knob is pretty much a fuzz face.

The Omega boost at ROG is a great one, variable frequency boost as well for variation
in fatness.
Do it!

Please report back if you decide on the boost.   I would love to hear it, maybe I'll try some of John's suggestions.  What transistors did you use for yours?

Alright, I was on the fence too long on this one so I just boxed up the original circuit and popped my trusty dusty Rangemaster--my first build-- in front of it.
I used transistors measuring 90 hfe and 140 hfe, and it is pretty versatile as is, but mooshy like I remembered.
With the RM:
HOLY CRAP!
Insta-tonebender!  Cleans up really nice with the guit volume when the rangemaster is on, and even stays pretty clear when a bigger (Iommi-sized) input cap in on.
It is strangely MORE focused than the original COKF, too, and less fizzzzzy.
Now I need an NPN rangemaster so I can box it together...

Thanks, and I'm glad for the suggestions.
