Hi all,

New member, and newbie to the diy effect community to boot. I've been scouting the Gristleizer as my next project (first effect), and I have a question pertaining to the power source;

The Smashing Guitars site redirects you to the Jameco page, offering an 18 VAC wallwart to power the pedal. This is on their Gristleizer Kit page. I'm assuming that the MAX1044 will take care of converting and supplying the +9/-9 voltage to the board. Is this true?

Thanks in advance for any and all input.
Cheer,
D.

Smashing Guitars must be using a different power circuit to the DIY projects that you've seen. 18VAC will be rectified to DC and regulated down to provide the +/-9V rails, I suspect. Projects using a MAX1044 will only need a 9VDC PSU and the chip will create the negative rail.

Thanks anchovie!!!

Alrighty then. I just purchased a Gristelizer PCB from EBay, and I was looking at a close up pic of it. I just wasn't sure if it was AC or DC I required. Any idea on how much current I'll need?

Cheers,
D.

Not much, I'd have thought. There's no microprocessors or tubes in there!
