I built up a Rat clone recently, just finished boxing it up last night. It's a Tayda PCB, an outdated version that was on clearance, it soldered up really well. I had to triple check against the schematic to make sure I had the pots round the right way, otherwise everything was straightforward.

Plugged it last night and... nothing. Fiddled around with it this morning, measuring voltages, checking for shorts, and so on. I swapped in an LF351 in place of the LM308, and hey presto! Noise!
Alas, without the LM308 my Rat clone will be completely lacking in Mojo  :'(
I'll just have to make do with glorious distortion, so sad, too bad  :icon_lol:

I'm not sure, to be honest, it was sitting around in my spares box for years.
I'm not certain it's genuine, and the writing is really hard to read so I'll go back and check it :)

Y'know what, it's actually an LM386  :icon_lol:
The writing is very hard to make out, I bet I confused the 8 with a zero and the 6 for an 8.

Ah well, I'll have to build another Ruby amp. I'm enjoying the Rat clone, and the higher slew rate chip is doing just fine. Part of me wants to chase up a low slew rate chip to try in it's place but most of me is happy just to play it as-is :)
