FUZZ question/mod?

looking at the standard NPN or PNP basic fuzz circuit - and most others.... the first transistor always has the emitter(npn) or collector(pnp) going straight to ground.  If a 470 Ohm-1k  resistor was put in place there, what effect would that have?  I'm looking to build a fuzz that doesn't break up so much and is easier to control and looking for mods to accomplish this.

Thanks

It lowers the gain of the first transistor. If you look up Orman's YAFF on his site, this exact thing is implemented. I'm sure other's have posted similar schematics as well, but that's just off the top of my head.

Yes, Orman places something smaller, like a 100 ohm there or so.
