Hey,
First off let me say this place is awesome! Lots of cool stuff for those with a love of tinkering like me  :icon_biggrin:
I just finished my second pedal. The first one I did was just an A/B box for a friend. It was pretty simple and good practice soldering and working in the confines of a box. The second pedal the one I just finished and tried out is the General Guitar Gadgets stratoblaster clean boost. It works great no problems, and sounds good. was just wondering is it normal to hear the switch engage & disengage on these types of pedals? The higher the volume on the pedal the more you hear it. It seems logical to me that this would be normal as this is a signal boost, but I just wanted to ask to be sure. Im going to build a couple of more pcb based pedals then Im going to try perfboard and bread boarding. Thanks for the help.

normal? yes. unavoidable? No.

Go to tech tips. why does my stompbox pop.

Thanks for the help. I read the article now I just gotta figure out how the fix relates to my pedal.

Ok I went back to the ggg site and looked at the parts layout for this boost and it already incorporates the fix for a leaky capacitor, so it must be mechanical noise from the switch its self. Here is a link to the layout page. http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_sbb_lo.pdf
Thanks again for the help. Im just proud it worked first time out. now on to more difficult conquests!

I had this problem on a Rebote and it turned out to be the LED. A small electrolytic cap running to ground from the 9v side of the LED worked wonders.

The pulldowns are N/C when the switch is connecting the 'other side'.
Mode-cycle the switch, then see if the charge dissipated from the DC blocking capacitor is decreased when the switch-s's it to signal path.
Silent mode-cycling of the switches...something to do at that gig you really care about, right before hitting standby.
Otherwise play loud when switching or figure "that's a problem pop".
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

pete the charge doesnt disipate on any of the capacitors. I checked them all as I was unsure whih one was the dc blocking cap. I think it is the 1.5 uf.

Hey Jason!    Cool you got some pedals going so soon, it took me about 3-4 failures before i got my first one going (a vox v846 wah).  a great place for beginner info (i'm there every other day) is beavisaudio.com, a good link is    http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/   .  Dano explains things in a really basic way with no presumption of prior knowledge (which is good) and his sense of humour is hella funny!   anyways Wecome to the forum dude   :)

Thanks for the warm welcome! I tend to learn stuff the way I learned to swim. Get thrown in over my head and somehow make it through. Of course with this method you always need someone standing by to rescue you when you get in bad trouble. Im fixing to go from city pool to middle of the ocean. my next pedal is a foxx tone machine clone. Its a fuzz and an octave pedal in one. Im gonna build mine with two footswitches instead of a toggle for the octave. Anyway I hope it works too.

That's a good idea i never thought of that!  will keep it in mind for future builds that have toggles.  cool!   8)
