The 308 is the Malmsteen signature pedal which is very close in design to both the 250 and D+.  Thanks that's the first I've heard about a 250 using half a dual op amp to be a 308 hybrid.  But I suppose you can make a hybrid out of any of those three pedal designs.

Hey you wanna build the Grey on vero?! Here it is!
http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/Renegadrian/250+grey.gif.html

As I am a Malmsteen guy, I just had to build one...And that's a winner for me...
D+, yeah, that's very similar, but never built one so far...

how do you get a malmsteen sound out of a dod 250....?????? just curious!...

It's not a "Malmsteen sound", they slightly tweaked the RI 250 to make it sound more like his vintage grey 250.  The 4558 chip in these things have much better freq response than the 741 in the old pedal, so it needs some tweaks to take off some of the extra high and low end the 4558 adds

To mod these (250 RI or 308), you can put a 1458 in place of the 4558, which is supposedly a dual version of the 741, and change a couple of resistors and caps to vintage specs.  You can instead put a 741 in there, but that involves more work, as the pinout is not the same as the dual chips.  You can read about all of this on Analog Man's mod pages.  He'll do either mod, but it's pretty simple.  He also can true bypass the pedal and/or add an LED.  I'm going to socket the IC, and put in the 1458.  I know you have to change the input cap from .001uf to .01uf, and take out a 25pf (I think, from memory) cap they added to affect the 4558 chip's response, and maybe another component change or two.

To Zombiwoof.  Ah I see.  I read that you're adding mods to your 308.  I misunderstood that part.  I perf boarded mine and want them to sound as close as possible to how they were designed.  That's why I built all three separately.  It looks like the originator of this thread is now going to build the D+ 3 on vero.   I hope he likes it.  I still have to make a grey 250 since I've never heard one.  I'm curious to hear why people like them so much. Maybe I'll try out your suggestions when I do. Well here I go another pedal to try. lol

The mod I'm going to do is supposed to get you about 90+% close to the original grey sound, to do it all the way you have to rewire to put the 741 chip in there.  I think I'll be satisfied with the easier option.

Then I have to get going on Brett's MIJ mod to my DS-1.  I just got hold of a 2007 model, with I think the NJM3404AL chip (I hope, it just arrived and I'm about to open it up).  I have another one with a bad tone pot that has the horrible sounding (IMO) N5223AL chip, so I'm going to mod one or the other of those.

Quotehow do you get a malmsteen sound out of a dod 250....HuhHuh just curious!...

Malmsteen is known for his use of the grey 250. He bought it back in Sweden in his teens and still uses it in studio.
He wanted to have a pedal to replicate that sound and take on the road with no fear (now a grey one is $300+ worth on evilbay) - so the 308 was born.
but yeah take a grey and a Strat, and there you are (well, almost...but you get veeeeery close...Instant Malmsteen!!!)
Done an' workin'=Too many to mention - Tube addict!

FIY there's a vero layout of the 308 too made by myself - obviously verified.
