hey all,
I recently "discovered" quite by accident that the ad781 s/h chip (whos specs and example projects found throuout the web say it requires a bipolar supply) seems to work fine with just ground and +9! I was testing a little bitcushing effect and noticed I completelly forgot to power the -9 to the chip from a charge pump converter. for a second there I thought I was crazy! I plugged the -9 in and the sound got noticably quieter. I'm guessing the bipolar supply requirements are there for greater headroom? it's really surprising that it works with just a regular supply, though.

is there any reason NOT to go the single power route if it sounds okay to my ears? do I risk burning it out or something? I could really save on the number of parts and pcb space...

Bumping a very old thread here...

Does anyone know if there would be a problem with powering the AD781 without a bi-polar supply or did you learn the hard way Cloudscapes?

I've just gotten one of these chips (and wont get another so I don't want it to die) and while i'm setting out to design a 1590B bit crusher not having to have a MAX1044 chip taking up estate would be handy.

Cheers.
