Looks like a great little DIY project for looper users. I imagine it's two matched pieces of maple, with a bit of routing for a piezo, wire and the jack, then sandwiched together. And the asymmetrical rubber feet, of course, for added mojo.

I remember when they thought they could sell those for £99...

I can't remember who the blues guy was a few years ago that had 1 new 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plywood on his rider so that he could stomp on it on stage.  Then at the end of the night he would load it in the trailer.  On the next tour he told my boss (who was the sound guy) that he built a big a$$ shed when he got home from the tour.

John Butler likes to use one of those contoraptions. Adds a nice nuance to the solos he does.  :)
To those about to rock, we salute you.

Yeah he's got a kind of old wooden crate with his pedals on but I think the crate is mic'd up. He gets a good sound out of just a few straight Boss effects and a wooden box.

I saw a killer rockabilly trio last summer and the drummer had a minimalist set. He had some funny looking box as bassdrum but they just hide a mike inside (I know the pa guy he told me the secret)

I did build a cajon drum early this year (a late christmas present :icon_redface:) and yes I am sure you could build whole drum set from plywood just cut across here and there and pile it

I was using speakers as microphones, very nice bass response.
Reading about 'ol studio trick to mic bass drums: a high quality 15'' speaker...made sense so I put blocks and drums and...everything else you can imagine on coils, most had cones. They have strong output, seem to drive cable well etc.
+, I know you have an 'ol speaker you can hook a shielded wire to...try tapping on the cone just right, maybe make some very lightwieght drumsticks, even rubbing the surface for 'slide' effect etc.
