Input jack switching mystery..?

OK, so I have a Foxx Tone Machine that I've used often since I built it a couple years ago.  Has worked great.  Last week at a gig, though, it crapped out on me- no power at all (no LED or sound when engaged).  Kept it on bypass for the set, figuring it was a dead battery- changed it during break & still nothing.  Hmmm.  On a whim, I change the cable and presto, it works.

Now I'm confused.  I make my own cords with Canare G6 cable and Switchcraft 90-degree plugs, the design of which makes it virtually impossible for the shield/ground to lose connection with the shell of the plug.  If the dead Foxx was caused by a faulty cable, I would get either no sound on bypass or at least a noisy signal due to bad ground, right?  Admittedly, I haven't torn apart the cable yet, but this seems unlikely.  I did check the wiring inside the box, and everything is fine- firm connections, no grounding out anywhere.  I figure the problem has to be related to the interaction of that cable with the power switching of the input jack, but I can't seem to pinpoint it.  Any ideas?  Am I missing something?  ???

Thanks!

Missing something? Don't know.

But this is what ohmmeters are for.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
