I just bought an Empress SD and would like to go the DIY for the expression pedal. I have an old wah shell that I could use. From the Empress site "The pinout for the expression pedal is TIP=signal, RING=3.3V power, SLEEVE=ground. So your expression pedal has to have that pinout."
Uh?
Any advice?

Its just a voltage divider.  So, the ground goes to one outside lug (the pedal up lug, presumably), the signal (tip) goes to the wiper (center lug), and the 3.3V (ring) goes to the other outside lug.  It probably isn't too critical what pot you use, but 10K seems to be normal for most digital systems.

So the only component in the expression pedal is the potentiometer? They want $100 for a Roland EV-5 at Steves music. Seems a little overpriced now.
