SO I have a gaming headset with headphones/mic, TRRS connector, and a splitter to separate the 2 if needed.

Both side of the split are TRS (makes sense for headphones, but not sure why the mic is TRS)...

...I wanted to plug the mic into the combo jack on my Onyx Blackjack USB interface via 3.5mm -> 1/4" TRS adapter, but no signal is passed. Why?

Any way to get that to work? (not ideal i understand, but for utility use...)

I suspect it needs power.

Find the data-sheet for this headset and see if it has clues.

good point - i do think it's an electret.

it works with my PC via the splitter - it never dawned on me that the mic jack may be supplying power.

though, TRRS is headphone l/r, mic, and ground, right?

I presumed the trs on the mic splitter was just a ground facility...hmmm.

not that i'd be able to easily ge phantom power via phone jacks anyway....

thanks...

google "plug-in power" - the jfet inside the electret capsule needs a dc voltage.
