combining op amp clipping and transistor gain stages

What would be the best way to incorporate an op-amp circuit where clipping occurs in the op-amp feedback loop into a circuit using silicon transistors or FETS for overdrive/gain?  If there are schematics already out there demonstrating how this could be accomplished, please post a link or pic.  Thanks!
