So i built an electra. With no switch or anything, just the jacks straight into the pedal and all i get is a very loud hum and no signal. i think i might have wired the jacks wrong. Could someone give me a diagram of an electra on stripboard( i used dragonflys layout) but without a switch? also is his layout verified? I tried switching the transistor around.

Thanks!

got pics? how are you grounding it? these instructions can be used as a reference in wiring without a box/switch

i'll get pics up later today. but do i just need to connect the sleeves to ground? or can i just solder them together?

The circuit, input and output get common to ground, it is the reference, like a base of a jack, it stays put [hopefully/usually] and the input voltage, referenced from ground...you need two wires for a circuit, one side of the signal stays at/is connected to ground, 0.0v.
Since this is NPN neg. gnd., - of the power supply also connects to ground.
Both sleeves [connect the input and output ground], anything else with a ground symbol, should be common/ground/0.0vdc.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

i think that one of the jacks are broken bcause i tried just soldering the jacks together and there is the same loud hum and no sound. i was using stereo jacks should i use mono?

Post a picture of the jacks soldered together.
Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.
